PA's Advice on not Continuing With Pregnancy

Disclaimer:  This is a general overview.  Different states and county have different laws pertaining to abortion.  Therefore, some options may or may not be available in certain areas.  There may also be additional counseling or requirements before an abortion can be performed.  Providers that are going to perform abortions have their own governing bodies and must be up to date on the current local and federal laws. Options for Terminating pregnancy: Medication and surgical abortion are both safe and effective options for the appropriate patient.  The more advanced the pregnancy is the more likely complications can arise.  Pregnancy must be confirmed in all cases prior to the procedure. Medication abortion:  Can be used up to 70 days gestation, preferably before day 63 of gestation.  These medications can only be prescribed by a physician.  Mifepristone and Misoprostol are used together to complete termination. ...

Giving Baby Up For Adoption - first finding out they were pregnant

Everyone always said that pregnancies happen unexpectedly, in my case it was very unexpected and it changed my life. I was 19  years old when I found out I was pregnant, and I didn’t have the normal pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness or heightened senses, and I never had regular periods growing up, so when I didn’t get mine I didn’t think anything of it. The night that I found out I was pregnant I was laying in bed and felt something in my stomach like a really big fish swimming. I quickly went to turn the lights on and I climbed back in bed and tried to relax like I was, but I was watching my stomach and felt it again and saw my stomach move. I called one of my friends and told her to come over and to bring pregnancy tests. I took about 5 or 6 tests and they all came out as positive. I was so scared and I didn't know what to do or think. When I found out I was pregnant I didn’t have a job or money to support me or the baby, or a running car in case someth...

PA's Medical Advice pre-conception and first finding out you're pregnant

When should women go to the doctor once they find out they're pregnant? Can you say what the benefit is to going and what the harm is if they don't? So I'm actually going to back up a bit and recommend that its best to get into the doctor when you are thinking about becoming pregnant.  There are a lot of lifestyle things and medications that can be very harmful to the fetus; many times, before women even know they are pregnant.  Its best to get in before your pregnant so you can talk to your doctor about medication and supplements you may be taking and if they are safe for pregnancy.  If they are not, the doctor can help wean you off of them or switch to more pregnant friendly drugs.  Before becoming pregnant its also important to quit smoking, reduce drinking alcohol and caffeine and be taking a multivitamin.  Preferable a prenatal with DHA and folic acid in it.  A healthy diet and exercise will also make pregnancy much more enjoyable.  Havi...

Teen Pregnancy Perspective - finding out she was pregnant

When I was 16, I found out some news that would change the entire course of my life. When the new year rolled around, I had to have my tonsils out. I had an allergic reaction to the anesthesia I was given, and because of that, my doctor prescribed me an antibiotic. Through the course of working with this brand new doctor, she informed me that I wouldn’t be able to become pregnant with the infection that I had, but she did recommend that I get on birth control. So my mom and I went to the doctor and was prescribed the pill; she told me to just wait for my period to start taking the contraception. Well I waited for a couple of weeks, and I never got my period. So we went back to the doctor and she continued to tell me that I couldn’t be pregnant, but she gave me a blood test anyway. We left the office, and I didn’t think about it again. A few days later, I locked the keys in my car at school. So my sister and my boyfriend went to my house to get the keys. When they got ...
