Everyone always said that pregnancies happen unexpectedly, in my case it was
very unexpected and it changed my life. I was 19 years old when I found out I was
pregnant, and I didn’t have the normal pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness
or heightened senses, and I never had regular periods growing up, so when I didn’t
get mine I didn’t think anything of it. The night that I found out I was pregnant I was
laying in bed and felt something in my stomach like a really big fish swimming. I quickly
went to turn the lights on and I climbed back in bed and tried to relax like I was, but I was
watching my stomach and felt it again and saw my stomach move. I called one of my
friends and told her to come over and to bring pregnancy tests. I took about 5 or 6 tests
and they all came out as positive. I was so scared and I didn't know what to do or think.
When I found out I was pregnant I didn’t have a job or money to support me or the baby,
or a running car in case something happened, I was nowhere near ready to be a parent.
I went to the clinic to take another test and that came out positive as well, they asked me
many questions to determine how far along I was. They guessed that with the movement
of the baby I was about 16 weeks pregnant and they referred me to a different clinic that
did a free ultrasound. The next day I went to the ultrasound clinic and they asked me the
same questions and guessed I was around 16 also but since I couldn’t remember my last
period, it was a giant ballpark of how far along I was. I went into the room and they put the
gel on my stomach and started scanning, and on the screen came a very grown baby. The
nurses and I both gasped and they started measuring the baby trying to figure out how far
along I actually was. After laying on that bed for an hour and a half, they figured out that I
was having a baby boy and I was approximately 24-25 weeks along.

I knew that I couldn’t pull myself in time to raise a baby so I decided I was going to do
adoption. I told my mom and grandparents first, my mom was not very happy and she left,
my grandparents both hugged me and said they would support whatever I chose to do. When
I told the rest of my family, they all said that I was supported and loved with whatever I chose
to do. One night we all sat down as a family and my aunt and uncle told me they were
looking to adopt and gave me the choice of them adopting my baby, they made some great
points like I would still be able to see him grow up and I would be part of his life. After
thinking about it and thinking about the pros and cons for a few days, I found there were
more pros than cons so I agreed to the adoption and the process started. My grandma took
me shopping for things I needed while being pregnant like prenatal vitamins, maternity
clothes, and foods I could eat while pregnant. My mom helped me find a great doctor, we
found a hospital for me to have the baby that worked for everyone, and the waiting process
for the baby began. ~ AJG
